Geography of Sheohar

Formation of Sheohar District 6th of Oct 1994 

Sheohar is an administrative district in the state of Bihar in India. The district headquarters are located at Sheohar, and the district is a part of Tirhut Division. Eminent Hindi Novelist, Dr.Bhagwati Sharan Mishra was the first District magistrate of Sheohar. The district occupies an area of 443 km² and has a population of 656,916 (as of 2011). Sheohar is known for its greenery and cleanest. Cadamba and teak are the principle trees of this district. Nilgai or blue bull is the regional animal of this area. This district has mixed population of Hindus and Muslims. Agriculture is the main stay. It is one of the most flood affected district in Bihar. Due to over flooding of the Bagmati and Budhi Gandak rivers. Dekuli (Dhancoul) is a holy place popular for ancient temple of lord Shiva. As of 2011 it is the second least populous district of Bihar (out of 39), after Sheikhpura.

Sheohar district occupies an area of 349 square kilometres (135 sq mi). It is bounded by three districts from north and east Sitamarhi, from west East Champaran and from south Muzaffarpur.
The main occupation of the people of this district is agriculture. All types of crops are produced. Varieties of rice, wheat, and a number of rabbi crops are produced.
In 2006 the Ministry of Panchayati Raj named Sheohar one of the country's 250 most backward districts (out of a total of 640). It is one of the 36 districts in Bihar currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF).

Dekuli Dham Mandir, sheohar -

Dekuli Dham Mandir is located in SH48, Dharampur Dekuli, Sheohar, Bihar .

The ancient Bhubneshwar Temple of Lord Shiva is situated 5 kms. east of Sheohar town between Sheohar-Sitamarhi sector on National Highway no. 104 near the river Bagmati. The legend is that the great mythological warrior, Parsurama – the famous devotee and disciple of Lord Shiva established here the SHIVALINGA and worshiped the deity for thousands of years. During the month of SHRAWANA a big fair is held every year around the temple.

शिवहर से पांच किलो मीटर पुरब सीतामढ़ी पथ में देकुली स्थित बाबा भुनेश्वर नाथ मंदिर जिले की पौराणिक धरोहर के साथ जिलावासियों की आस्था का केंद्र है | द्वापर काल में निर्मित इस मंदिर में शिवहर के पड़ोसी जिलों के साथ नेपाल तक के लोग पूजा अर्चना एवं जलाभिषेक करने आते हैं |
इस मंदिर की धार्मिक महत्व के बारे में कहा जाता है कि यह मंदिर एक ही पत्थर को तराश कर बनाया गया है | इसमें स्थापित शिव लिंग भवान परशुराम की तपस्या से प्रकट शिव की देन है | को आदि काल से बाबा भुवनेश्वर नाथ के नाम से प्रचलित है | शिव लिंग के अरघा के निचे अनंत गहराई है |जिसे मापा नहीं जा सकता है | वहीं मंदिर के गुंबज के नीचे स्तर में श्री यंग स्थापित है | मान्यता है कि जो कोई जलाभिषेक के बाद श्री यंग को नमस्कार करता है उसकी सारी मनोकामना पूर्ण हो जाती है | जानकारों का कहना है कि सन १९५६ में प्रकाशित अंग्रेजी गजट में इस धाम की चर्चा करते हुए उल्लेख किया गया था कि नेपाल के पशुपति नाथ एवं भारत के हरिहर क्षेत्र मंदिर के मध्य में देकुली बाबा भुनेश्वर नाथ मंदिर अवस्थित है | कोलकत्ता हाई कोर्ट के एक फैसले में भी ‘अति प्राचीन बाबा भुवनेश्वर नाथ मंदिर देकुली धाम’ उल्लेखित है | इस्ट इंडिया कंपनी के कार्यकाल में चौकिदारी रसिद पर भी इस मंदिर का उल्लेख मिलता है |ग्रामीण बताते है की मंदिर के पश्चिम एक तालब है जिसकी खुदाई १९६२ ई. में चैतन्य अवतार जिले के छतौनी गावं निवासी महान संत ‘प्रेम भिझु जी महाराज ने कराई थी | जिसमे द्वापर काल पत्थर एवं धातु की मूर्तियाँ प्राप्त हुई थी |
जिसे मंदिर के प्रांगन में मुख्य द्वार के दाहिने तरफ अति प्राचीन मौलश्री वृक्ष के जड़ के पास स्थापित की गई है | जमीन के सामान्य स्तर से करीब १५ फिट ऊपर अवस्थित उक्त शिव मंदिर के उत्तर पश्चिम कोने में माता पार्वती, दक्षिण में भैरोनाथ, एवं पुरब दक्षिण के कोण में हनुमान जी का मंदिर है | मंदिर के पूरब करीब १२ फिट के नीचे खुदाई करने पर ग्रेनाईट पत्थर से बने अवशेष प्राप्त होते हैं | कहा जाता है कि कुच्छ वर्षों पहले इस मंदिर के पश्चिम खुदाई में एक नरक काल प्राप्त हुआ था | जिसके अग्रबाहू की लम्बाई १८ इंच से अधिक थी | पुरातात्विक दृष्टिकोण से भी महत्वपूर्ण इस मंदिर के खुदाई पर फ़िलहाल रोक लगी है |इसके पौराणिक एवं धार्मिक महत्व के बारे में कहा जाता है कि भगवती सीता के साथ पानी ग्रहण संस्कार के उपरांत जिस स्थान पर राम को परशुराम के कोप का शिकार होना परा | वह जगह कोपगढ़ गाँव के नाम से जाना जाने लगा | जहाँ परशुराम का मोह भंग हुआ | वहां मोहारी गाँव बसा हुआ है |
राम एवं परशुराम के आपसी प्रीति के पश्चात परशुराम ने राम को भुनेश्वर नाथ (शिव) के दर्शन कराये जिसके कारन शिव एवं हरी का यह मिलन क्षेत्र शिवहर के नाम से जाना जाने लगा | हालांकि शिव का घर से भी शिवहर नाम प्रचलित होने की बात कही जाती है | वही द्वापर काल में कुलदेव को द्रोपदी द्वारा संपूजित किये जाने के कारण इस जगह का नाम देकुली पड़ा | हालांकि इस बारे में अन्य कई कथा प्रचलित है | धाम से सटे उत्तर में युधिष्ठिर के ठहरने के उपरांत ६१ तालाब खुदवाये थे | जो विभिन्न नामों से प्रचलित था | जो बागमती नदी के कटाव में अस्तित्व हीन हो गया ओर पास का गाँव धर्मपुर कहलाया | देकुली धाम मंदिर में शिव भक्त शिवरात्रि, वसंत पंचमी, मकर संक्रान्ति के साथ प्रत्येक रविवार एवं अन्य सुभ अवसरों पर यहाँ श्रद्धालुओं की भीड़ लगी रहती है | शादी, मुंडन, उपनयन संस्कार सहित विभिन्न शुभ कार्यक्रम यहाँ श्रद्धा एवं भक्ति के साथ संपन्न किये जाते हैं ओर भगवान शिव सभी की मनोकामना पूर्ण करते हैं ||
